Benefits Of Family-Friendly Policies Essay The past few decades, families in Hong Kong faced in undergone major changes, intense pace of life and hard work always affected families’ features. How to balance family life and work have become a social policy, in order to establish a family-friendly community, have implemented various measures to help employees balance their work and family lives, promote family relationship. In this essay, first I will explain these policies how to help with all aspects of employee, and then analysis of these measures on the employment benefit. Finally, pointed out that Hong Kong Government and the enterprises on how to implement these policies. Family-friendly employment may implement different policies to meet the needs of employees. Including the introduction of given family leave benefits, such as marriage leave, paternity leave, parental leave, compassionate leave, special casual leave and special long leave, etc (GovHK, n.d.). This measure will be through the height of the working environment and working arrangements to facilitate employees in taking care of family needs, such as the five-day working week, flexible work time and family-based work, and so on. The other hand will provide support to families, including child care services, counselling services, child custody etc. A Research Report prepared by the Department of Applied Social Sciences of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is named â€Å"Family-Friendly Workplace†noted that Most respondents agreed or strongly agreed with implementing â€Å"family-friendly†policies. (Poly U, 2002) Family-friendly policies can also bring much benefits to company. In a supportive working environment, staffs will feel they are valued and employer will gain the benefit. Firstly, employer can reduce staff turnover and retain potential employee. On the other hand, many people were convinced that employees working flexible hours were more productive than those working traditional hours. This measure in addition to motivate employees, increase productivity, but also improved reputation and corporate image, therefore there are many large enterprises are involved in the implementation of these measures. In view of this, government and enterprises were organized a variety of measures and activities promoting family-friendly policies. The booklet prepared by the Labour Departments album â€Å"Good people management Family-Friendly Employment Practices†(labour.gov.hk, n.d.). Through a variety of good measures taken by the employer, may learn to provide for all instances. Research on Family-friendly Employment Policies and Practices in Hong Kong from The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) and the Womens Commission (WoC) (EOC 2006). They hope that through this survey, a better understanding in Hong Kong, companies or institutions can help employees balance their work and family roles provides programme needs. A Family-Friendly Employers Award Scheme 2011 was organised by the Family Council. The award scheme aims to give recognition to employers who attach importance to the spirit of family-friendliness (gov.hk, 2011). Through these activities, to undertake a study, to understand the profile of Hong Kong families, and building partnerships with Government, business and professional sectors, actively promote the industry cares family In this essay, I Have attempted to present suggest to implementation of family-friendly policies on families, or employers both have many favorable factors, together with the Hong Kong Government and the enterprises efforts, this measure would allow employers and employees there will be a win-win situation.

An Analysis of the Epic Poem, Beowulf - Anglo-Saxon Customs and Values
Anglo-Saxon Customs and Values Reflected in Beowulf      Readers today approach the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf with cultural preconceptions very different from those expressed by the author of this poem. This essay hopes to enlighten the modern reader regarding the customs and values from the time of the poem’s composition.   Beowulf makes reference to Ingeld and his wife and the coming Heathobard feud:                                                             in that hot passion his love for peace-weaver,                   his wife, will cool (2065-66)  This is a rare passage, for Anglo-Saxon poetry rarely mentions romantic feelings between spouses. In fact, one’s marital status was even considered insignificant. For example, with the hero himself the poet never mentions whether he is married or not. On the other hand, feelings between men are presented frequently and with surprising intensity. Robot – Technology Taking over Humanity â€Å"Technology Is taking over humanity. This phrase Is being proven more and more as technology develops and the years go by. It is more deeply shown through the movie, Robot. The main message of this movie is to show how our society can change to be completely dependent on technology if we keep on improving it in many different ways such as robotic body parts, robotic systems and robots to do everyday work for humans. The advances In technology are amazing to some extent and are completely changing owe we humans live and really, are saving lives.Many years ago, you didn't hear many people getting metal hip replacements, or any other body part replaced by some man made machine or object. It's becoming a common thing to have to give up on the body and rely on machine. As this progresses, eventually humans will continue to be able to replace body parts and essentially, extend the lifetime of a human being and could be considered robots. Humans currently rely on deferent robotic parts to fix up parts of their bodies which are not working to the right potential.To fix the different senses such as hearing, doctors surgically implant an electric device that provides a sense of sound to a person which is profoundly deaf. A visual prosthesis is a visual device intended to restore functional vision in those suffering from partial or total blindness. Robotics are used to transplant living cells, tissues or organs from human to human or human to animal or vice versa. Many concerns may come with this such as the transferring different diseases or possibly the failure of transplanting. Diseases are ore common In semitransparent.Semitransparent Is the transplanting of body parts from animal to human or vice verses. Alternations is less risky as it is the transplanting of body parts to and from the same species. Organ farming or harvesting refers to the removal, preservation and use of human organs or tissues from the recently deceased to the living. This way of saving people's lives has become very common especially in the past few years. Even though all these replacements of body parts and systems are available to all people, the prices are ere costly therefore it is out of reach for many people who do not have the money for It.It may be saving people's lives but not for all. If we think about it, the only part of our bodies that would be very hard to imitate and create as a machine would be the brain. It is also the last piece of our bodies separating humans from being completely a robot. As technology progresses, it will be possible to create something that Is close to the way a brain operates. All this Is present In the movie of Robot. We can clearly see that robots have taken 1 OFF ever the humans lives in the movie and that we soon eventually will become like that without help.The relationship between our life and the Robot life is shown through the way robots have been made adapted to our every n eed. With the robots existing we are able to take their functions and make them our own, to help us when we are in need. Piece by piece, soon the human body completely will become machine functioned. The advantages to having these robotic replacements are that humans will have a longer life expectancy. This is also a downside as it is playing with the way life is opposed to be.Another advantage is that it would save lives. There are so many people out there waiting for transplants but if technology eventually got to a point where body parts and vital organs were being made we would be blessed with a longer life. The downsides of robotic replacements are that computers are easily hacked. If humans become partially robotic or even fully robotic we may be hacked, taking over our bodies and mind, controlling every move. Also, humans weren't made to improve upon the bodies that we were given.Overall technology has helped humans so far by saving lives with robotic replacement or transplan ting of cells, tissues or organs. Where it goes from here may change the world drastically. This is why the phrase â€Å"Technology is taking over humanity' is becoming real. Soon we will become a robotic world where all we do is through robotics whether it is to help us repair or improve our bodies or help us in day to day activities, where we all are partially if not fully robotic and where we have completely lost our humanity through machine and technology development.

The Sociology Imagination is an awareness between personal experience, that is biography, and shared experience, that is social history. History is an interesting thing; I say it is a thing because in some ways it is as tangible as the paper on which this is written. History is our story. This story will present a story of many people including myself who face contradictions in their personal, religious and cultural beliefs and how those beliefs can be reconciled. Many Christian’s in particular young Christian’s who grow up with same-sex attractions, are constantly having a battle in their heads about who they really are (Macaulay, 2010, p. 7). Questions like, ‘is God real?’ ‘Does he love and accept me?’ I am also Maori, and that in itself brings its challenges, how is my culture reflected in my faith, and how is my faith reflected in my culture, and how is my faith and culture reflected in my life? Movie Analysis 12 Angry Men - 1404 Words
The group type presented in the film 12 Angry men appears to be a task group. Task groups typically come together to accomplish a specific charge. In this case, their task was to decide a verdict of guilty or not guilty for the boy on trial. According to our text, some feature of this task group would include those listed under the â€Å"teams†category such as appointed leadership and focus on a specific task or charge. The members’ bond is simply there interest in the task, as they have no previous relationship. The composition of the group is based on their common interest, shared purpose, and investment in community through their task on the jury. The communication style began as being relative to the task and low member self-disclosure. I believe near the middle and end of the movie the communication moved into more informal member-to-member discussion, formulation and implementation of tactics and strategies for change. We began to see higher member self-disclosur e in relation to social problems – both under the teams approach. Nurses are faced with ethical dilemmas every day. There are a lot of different beliefs surrounding ethics and the code of ethics. Ethics and ethical issues have always existed, that is why they have put in place the code of ethics. The American Nursing Association (ANA) Code of Ethics isa guideline to help nurses determine which course of action to pursue. Every minute many ethical decisions are made, some may not comply with guidelines and others the patient’s will never understand. In this case study the nurse is put in an uncomfortable position and has two find a way to comply with the family, the patient, and the doctor’s orders. How can she report to the doctor the information the daughter has told her? How she approached handling the situation and not let the patient know his daughter does not want to care for him? How does she break the news to the patient that he will not be going home with his daughter? These are just several of the questions the nurse will have to answer to provide the best possible care for her patient. All ethical decisions should comply with the code of ethics and always be for the patient’s health. Ethics should be recognized from the patient, the family, nurse, and doctor’s point of view or scope of practice. The purpose of this paper is to find ethical issues within the case study. The paper will highlight the definition of ethics, the dilemma the nurse faces in the case study, and the possible solution. The case study involves a 65-year-old Hispanic male admitted in hospitalwith hyperglycemia. The ethical issues beganwhen the nurse is told by the daughter of the patient she cannot care for him. The nurse is put in a position of finding a place for her noncompliant patient. The nurse is also informed the patient has sought help from a curandero. A curandero is ann Hispanic folk medicine practitioner. â€Å"Curandero use a range of procedures from messages, herbal supplement, prayer, magic, and talk therapy to treat people. The strong focus on talking to the patient and embracing often deeply held superstitious beliefs offers a fertile ground for the placebo effect†. (RationalWiki, 2010). The patient has not taken his prescribe medication and his eating habits are also noncompliant. The patient is dealing with the death of his wife and the patient’s daughter believes he is acting this way on purpose and is unable to care for him properly. The aughter does not want to tell the doctor about the patient seeing a Curandero,but wants her father to be admitted into a nursing home in order for him to receive the proper care he needs. The nurse would need to consult with the Code of ethics book on the nursing floor to proceed with the best possible solution to the problem. The code of Ethic for Nurses is a guide for carrying out nursing responsibilities in a consistent manner with a certain quality in nursing care(American Nursing Association, 2001). There are ethical principles that a nurse should learn to apply to each situation that they feel an ethical decision will need to be made. The history of ethics has been around for a long time. Nurses have an ethical obligation to care for patientsand do no harm. Ethical conflicts and dilemmas occur every day in the health care world. â€Å"Ethics is defined as the rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession†(FARLEX, 2011). The nurse should have the adequate skills and experience to provide great care to the patient. Nurses should always accept their moral and responsibilities that come along with their job and title. Nurses help to minimize risks and provide safety measure for the individual who is receiving care. There are several ways the nurse can approach this situation. The first is to help easy patient’s S. Z. daughter’s fears about her father. The nurse will need to talk with the daughter and they both can collaborate on how they can get her father to comply with doctor’s orders. The second is to educate patient S. Z. on the importance of eating right, taking prescribe medication, and the dangers of combing his medication with herbal medication. The third, is to speak with the doctor and inform the physician on the patient situation and all the information that the daughter has informed her on. The first two choices leave the doctor out of the equation. The best possible solution will be to speak with the doctor and let him know what is going on with the patient. The doctor will need to know everything that is going on with the patient in order for the doctor to give the patient adequate care. This solution will allow the doctor, the nurse, and the patient’s daughter to collaborate and set up a care plan for the patient. â€Å"Collaboration is not just cooperation but it is the concerted effort of individuals and groups to attain a shared goal†(Ruth Ludwick Mary Cipriano Silva, 2011). Collaboration requires a mutual understanding and respect among the healthcare team providing the care for the patient and having an open dialogue amongst the people involved. The doctor, the nurse, the daughter, and the patient will need to discuss how to care for the patient once discharged from the hospital. The patient’s daughter may not want to voice her concerns in front of the patient, but the patient will need to be informed on why he is going to an assistant living facility instead of home with his daughter. The nurse and doctor will be the ones to inform patient S. Z. on the reason he his being discharge to a nursing home in a matter that he can understand and avoid letting him know his daughter cannot provide adequate care for him at her home. The doctor will need to have a psychologist assess the patient because of his depression and admit him into an assistant living factuality so they can help watch over him like his wife use to. In order for patient S. Z. to receive the care that he needs the nurse will need to inform the doctor on what is going on with the patient. The standard of nursing practice and the nurse’s responsibility to provide quality care requires that relevant data be shared with those members of the healthcare team who need to know†(Ruth Ludwick Mary Cipriano Silva, 2011). Only the information that pertains to the patient treatment and wellbeing should be disclosed. With patient S. Z. having diabetes and substituting his medication for herbals medication can put his life in danger. Keeping his cultural beliefs in mind, the nursewill need to educate the patient on the importance of taking his medication in order to keep his blood sugar under control. Ask him for a list of his herbal medication that he is currently taking, to see if it is safe for him to take with his prescribe medication. Allowing the patient to combine his beliefs with his care plan will bring a better out come for the patient’s health. If the doctor is unaware of the patient’s holistic approach to his health can prescribe him medication that iscontraindicateand can cause the patient harm. Taking what the daughter’s concerns into consideration, the nurse will have to make the ethical decision to inform the physician on every detail about the patient’s health. If the nurse can help the daughter understands that it is her goal to ensure the best possible help for her father. In order for the patient to receive that care, she will have to disclose the information that she entrusted her with. â€Å"Interactions with the patients and their families who are struggling with these issues are emotionally demanding and fraught with the potential for understanding. In the midst of anger, confusion, and often dysfunction healthcare professionals are expected to provide safe care and arrange for optimum disposition or placement†(Richard A. Bryan Childers, 2004). The patient’s daughter should come to the understanding that it is in the best interest for her and her father. The American Nursing Association (ANA) codes of ethic are the guidelines in which nurse’s follow to help them determine the course of action to take. The Code of Ethics compels nurses to do the right thing in the patient’s best interest. This case study raises several questions on how to provide the patient with the care and help he needs while incorporating the family wishes. It is important for the nurse to help the family cope with the situation as well as the patient.
